Swear detail
SwearBy’s first product, an iOS app, was an open recommendation platform that wasn’t tailored toward a specific audience. After a few releases, it was realized the concept would function better as a web platform. In the new iteration the content would be created by curated editors and targeted toward a female demographic.
To kickoff the process I took a look at SwearBy’s existing branding and made some changes to help align it with the new target demographic. This included modifying the logo, a new color palette, and a more elegant approach to the typography. Working from a robust set of wireframes, I designed all aspects of the platform including on-boarding, account management, browsable content sections, and user profiles. A style library was developed to bring consistency to the wide range of UI components and allow for the product to scale more easily.

The SwearBy app let users connect with friends and professionals to find or recommend products. The first version was created in a rapid development posture to quickly establish a core experience. I joined the project to help streamline the UI and UX for version 2.0.
I started by mapping out the user flows of the app and making adjustments and consolidations to improve usability. As a new app with a user learning curve it was important for the interface to be straight forward and familiar. I established the use of a bottom tab bar to toggle between the main sections of the app. A consistent header is used throughout with standard navigation controls. The typography was simplified and standardized with the use of San Francisco.
After a number of months on the app store with limited success in terms of user engagement, planning for the next phase of SwearBy, a web platform, began.
